INTRO: Greetings. This will be a short post. This is due to the fact that I am tired and don’t have much to say about my concussion. Good progress has been made, but still not enough to continue the regular forecasts. I am doing this one, as Tuesday might be a “big one” for snowfall.
ALERT: A Winter Storm Watch will go into effect, for Bennington County, Northern Berkshire County, and Southern Berkshire County, beginning 1:00 AM Tuesday morning and going until 7:00 PM Tuesday evening.
APPETIZER: It is still a bit early, so the details aren’t set in stone. Furthermore, any slight shift in the storms track could change everything in a huge way. When I say this I mean it. Also, it is unknown where the extremely heavy snowfall bands will set up. If you live where the bands will be, oh mamma, you are going to have a heck of a lot of snow.
So, this one seems to be a “Miller Type-B” storm. My definition here is likely not technically correct, but it will be easy for you and I to understand. The “Miller Type-B” is when we have an inland storm weakening. The effect of this is, a storm off the coast forms and begins strengthening.
MAIN COURSE: Alright, enough of that stuff, let’s get to the juicy part. It will likely begin snowing for us late Monday night or very very early Tuesday morning. The snow should be falling quite heavily throughout the day Tuesday and begin to taper off Tuesday afternoon. Snow should be done Tuesday night.
It is a quick storm so that decreases snow totals, however, if expected banding occurs, that increases the totals. I am hesitant to give numbers, because there is much uncertainty, but I know that’s why you are all here. Let’s get this out of the way. If the storm goes out to sea, at most it will be a few inches. If the storm develops extreme bands of snow and maybe lasts a bit longer, 2 feet could be possible.
DESSERT: My forecast will be a widespread 4 to 8 inches of snow for the entire Berkshire Weather forecast area. I know, compared to some I am actually playing it conservatively on this storm. However, for this one I feel it will be better to expect less and get more if you are a snow lover. The second part of my forecast will be an area of 8 to 12 inches of snow for wherever the snow bands develop.
NOTICE: I want you all to take into full account, this post is on Sunday, while the storm is on Tuesday. Much could and likely will change in the next 24 hours. So, please, for my sake, take this with a container of salt.
HAZARDS: All commute times on Tuesday are expected to be extremely dangerous. Difficult to impossible travel conditions are likely. Power outages and tree damage may also occur. Snowfall rates could exceed an inch per hour at times.
SNOW DAY CALCULATION: 82% chance of a snow day on Tuesday.
GRAND FINALE: I can’t stress this enough, if the track changes then the forecast changes, so too do the snow totals and even snow day calculation. Use Berkshire Weather as a guide, but the decisions you all make are your own. Please, enjoy the week ahead. Thank you and have a great day. Cheers everyone!
I was hoping we would hear from you Jacob! Thank you! And know we are continuing to wish you healing!!!
