Eclipse Post: Sunday/April/7/2024

Intro: Greetings everyone. I might be the Weather Warlock, but I am certainly not the Cosmic Controller. It is just luck that our area will most likely have ideal viewing for the eclipse tomorrow. Here’s the rundown…

Location: Since we are not in the path of totality, it will be called the maximum for our area. The maximum will be higher the further north and west you go. The percentages below are how much of the sun will be covered by the moon:

-Bennington County will reach between 96% and 98%

-Northern Berkshire County will reach between 95% and 97%

-Southern Berkshire County will reach between 94% and 95%

*Southern Berkshire County is south of Pittsfield

Timing: The event will be between about 2:13 PM and 4:37 PM. However, the maximum will be between 3:26 PM and 3:27 PM.

Safety: Please do not view the event without the correct glasses. They should meet the standard of ISO 12312-2. If you do not wear the correct glasses or wear none at all and look up, you will receive permanent damage to your eyes.

Cool Effects: I have been reading up to learn much about the effects of a solar eclipse. Here are the top ones I remember:

– Wear red and green, because the colors might look differently as it gets darker. However, you will need to take off your glasses to see the effect, remember to put them back on if you do.

– Some shadows might become more detailed, while others might look like a crescent shape. This will be interesting to view.

– The temperature might drop.

– Animals might act as if it were the evening.

Other Notes:

– The solar eclipse is occurring because the moon is aligning in front of the sun. It is like this: SUN –> MOON –> EARTH

– The lunar eclipse occurs from the Earth blocking the moon from the sun: SUN –> EARTH –> MOON

– The lunar eclipse is much less rare, usually occurring twice a year.

– The solar eclipse is very rare and the next one for the United States will be in 20 years, 2044!

– The event, even not totality, might be magical and fantastical.

Weather: The temperature will likely be in the 50s. Skies will be mostly sunny, but some clouds are possible. Northwest winds of 5 to 10 MPH.

MOST IMPORTANT: The date of the event will be tomorrow, Monday, April 8th, 2024!

Ending: Thank you to NASA for all the work they do and for their detailed information about the eclipse. Cheers everyone!
