Welcome: Good morning. Today will be briefing-type post for tonight and tomorrow’s winter weather. My main notice to you all is that if the temperatures are warmer than expected this will not be that dangerous, but if the temperatures are colder this storm will be much fiercer than expected…

Alert: Two Winter Weather Advisories have been issued. The first is for Lenox, MA and southwards from 6:00 PM tonight going until 10:00 AM tomorrow. The next is for Pittsfield, MA and northwards from 10:00 PM tonight going until 7:00 PM tomorrow.

Timing: The storm begins as snow tonight, with a chance those in valleys or just warmer areas begin as rain. As the night passes everyone should become a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain. Tomorrow early morning freezing rain and sleet are expected. As the morning hours pass a transition to freezing rain and/or rain is also expected. Finally, late tomorrow afternoon a transition back to snow, freezing rain, and rain is expected.

Temperature During The Storm: Highs could reach the lower 40s and lows could drop to the upper 20s.

Snow: Widespread snow is likely. I expect 1 to 3 inches of snow in total.

Sleet: Widespread sleet is likely. Sleet amounts are part of snow amounts.

Freezing Rain: Widespread freezing rain is likely. I expect up to or slightly more than 1 tenth of an inch (1/10 or 0.1) of ice is possible.

Rain: Widespread rain is likely. Less than an inch of rain is expected.

Thunder: Not expected.

Peak Wind: 5 to 15 mph. Coming from the East Northeast.

Blowing/Drifting Snow: Not expected.

Hazards Summary: Roads will be slippery and potentially hazardous. Be mindful that even though it may look like it’s raining, it may actually be rain that is immediately turning to ice upon reaching the ground, also known as freezing rain.
