Friday/August/20/2021/5:00 PM Update

This update will concern Tropical Storm Henri.

Henri is near hurricane strength with max sustained winds of 70 mph. Now I do not wish to scare anyone but there will be a band of very heavy rain. The rain amounts seem to be a widespread 4 to 6 inches through all of Berkshire County. This will start Sunday morning and last to Monday afternoon of evening. However the heaviest rain should come Sunday evening and night. There is a small swath in the central to south eastern portions of the Berkshire’s, which holds 6 to 10 inches of rain. Be prepared for flooding and plan evacuation routes if needed.

Tornados will not be a threat. The wind threat is uncertain. Anywhere from below tropical storm force to nearing hurricane force winds. If this storm gets a little faster and moves west either over the Berkshire’s or west of the Berkshire’s we could be dealing with a big storm. It all depends on the track and strength of Henri. But it is always better to be safe than sorry.

I may post again later tonight if anything changes. It is ironic that 10 years ago on August 29th Hurricane Irene hit Berkshire County and Southern Vermont very bad with flooding rains. It may happen again this year. Be safe. Have a good night.

Friday/August/20/2021

Welcome: Good morning folks. Read the tropical forecast on Henri because that will be the long term player.

Forecast: Today is mostly cloudy with some drizzle. It will be in the upper 70s to low 80s. Lows in the mid to upper 60s. It is a humid day.

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy in the mid 80s and humid. Some showers and thunderstorms possible. Lows in the mid 60s.

Then on Sunday it will be mostly cloudy with showers. Highs in the low 80s. Henri will be approaching. Lows in the lower 60s.

Next Week’s Forecast: Next week we will have Henri at the beginning of the week and then we will have cloudy conditions.

Precipitation Forecast: 40% chance of rain today and tomorrow.

Wind Forecast: 5 to 10 mph turning gusty as Henri approaches.

Air Quality Forecast: Great air.

Heat Index Forecast: Really hot and humid out there, remember to drink water.

UV and Light Forecast: Mostly clouds so do not worry about the sun.

Tropical Forecast: We have three areas to watch.

1. Tropical Storm Henri. We are in the cone of Henri. Winds here will likely be of tropical storm force or even strong tropical storm force. At the moment it does not look like we will see hurricane force wind because it will still be to our east and it will be slow. Henri will be over cool waters so it will weaken, but because it will move so slow it will weaken even more. However Henri’s intensity will still be a strong tropical storm so if it moves to the west a little and moves slightly faster I would not be surprised to see hurricane watches. This evening I predict we will see tropical storm watches. Do not take tropical storms as a joke. A tropical storm can still do lots of damage. Be prepared and most of all be safe. The storm will approach Sunday so get ready today and tomorrow.

2. A tropical wave near the Cabo Verde Islands will try to merge with another tropical wave. I give it a small chance of development while it moves west.

3. Hurricane Grace will soon make landfall in Mexico.

Hazards Summary: Henri will be here on Sunday.

Notable Amounts: In all I received 1.23 inches of rain from Fred.

Anything to Mention: Have an amazing day.

Thursday/August/19/2021

Welcome: Good morning, we have a lot to discuss today.

Forecast: Today showers are likely. Highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. Tonight will have lows in the lower to mid 60s.

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy to partly sunny with highs in the lower 80s. Lows will be in the mid 60s.

Then on Saturday we can expect partly sunny conditions with scattered showers. It will be in the lower to mid 80s. Lows will be in the mid 60s.

Next Week Forecast: Next week we will be watching the tropics, though I already know it will be humid and rainy.

Precipitation Forecast: We have a 70% chance of showers today and a 20% chance of showers tomorrow morning.

Wind Forecast: 5 to 10 mph.

Air Quality Forecast: Amazing air.

Heat Index Forecast: Today and tomorrow will be humid, you will sweat a lot.

UV and Light Forecast: Many clouds so you do not need to worry about the sun.

Tropical Forecast: We have three areas to watch.

1. The Tropical Remnants of Fred have been passing to our north and east. Showers are still likely but will be less heavy. Isolated tornadoes are possible today until the mid afternoon. Be aware that a quick spin up may form with or without it raining.

2. Tropical Storm Henri is the next threat. Berkshire County has been moved out of the cone. However the National Hurricane Center still gives our area a 20 to 30% chance of tropical storm force winds. It also gives our area a 5% chance of strong tropical storm winds. However hurricane conditions are not out of the question. We will need to monitor Henri, a high pressure area, and a low pressure area. These three air masses will interact and decide where Henri goes.

3. Tropical Storm Grace has made landfall in the Yucatan Peninsula. It will restrengthen into a hurricane when it leaves the Yucatan and heads towards Central Mexico.

Hazards Summary: Isolated tornados today.

Notable Amounts: So far I have received 0.65 of an inch of rain from Fred.

Anything to Mention: Have a great day and be safe.

Wednesday/August/18/2021

Today is a later post because I have been monitoring the Tropical Remnants of Fred and Tropical Storm Henri and how they will impact us.

Forecast: Tonight will be cloudy in the upper 60s. Heavy rain likely north of the pike and showers likely south of the pike.

Tomorrow will be rainy with some heavier showers. It will be in the upper 70s.

Then on Friday we can expect mostly cloudy to partly sunny conditions. Highs in the mid to upper 80s.

Air quality forecast: Great air today and tomorrow.

Tropical: We have three areas to watch.

1. The Tropical Remnants of Fred will impact our region tonight through tomorrow night. The main threat will be heavy rain with localized flash flooding. Winds could gust to 30 mph at times and an isolated tornado can not be ruled out.

2. Hurricane Grace is heading to the Yucatan Peninsula around Mexico and once it passes it will continue through Mexico possibly into the Pacific Ocean.

3. Tropical Storm Henri will become a hurricane. I do not want to panic anyone but there is a possibility the storm may directly impact us as a hurricane. The National Hurricane Center has put Berkshire County in the cone for Tropical Storm Henri. Impacts, timing, and intensity are still uncertain. However a more westward track can be seen in model runs today compared to yesterday. Be prepared for a hurricane but do not panic, it is called the cone of uncertainty for a reason.

Precipitation: Tonight through tomorrow will bring 1 to 2 inches of rain. Isolated amounts of 3 inches are possible the farther north in Berkshire County you live.

UV and light index: This week will be very cloudy you do not need to worry about the sun.

Wind: 10 to 15 mph with gusts to 30 mph.

Air quality forecast: Good air today and tomorrow.

Tropical: We have three areas to watch.

1. Tropical Depression Fred has weakened as it made landfall. It will bring flash flooding and some gusty winds here into are area. By the time it hits us AccuWeather states it will be a “tropical rainstorm”. It should begin to impact us on Thursday as it merges with a cold front. No damaging winds expected just gusty.

2. Tropical Storm Grace is south of Cuba and will impact Mexico as a hurricane.

3. Tropical Storm Henri is southeast of Bermuda. It will eventually turn into a hurricane. It will turn towards the US but will then immediately turn back to sea. Gusty winds may be felt on the easternmost coasts of Massachusetts.

Precipitation: Wednesday through Thursday will have tropical rain bands going in and out of the region over and over. Some bands may contain heavy rain. Expected amounts should be up to 3 inches. After Friday scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible.

UV and light index: This week should have many more clouds than sun just be aware to not spend to much time in direct sunlight if there is any.

Air quality forecast: Good air for a while. We will have good air for today, tomorrow, maybe the rest of the week. So go enjoy Mother Earth.

Tropical: We have three areas to watch.

1. Tropical Storm Fred is making landfall around the Florida panhandle. It is slightly stronger than expected. It may become a strong tropical storm. It does not look like it will impact us, we are far away from the cone.

2. Tropical Depression Grace is south of the Dominican Republic and looks to pass south of Cuba and make landfall in Mexico or possibly the border of Mexico and the USA.

3. Tropical Depression Eight has formed south of Bermuda. It does not look to make any direct impacts to the USA. However Bermuda may be impacted, also there may be rip currents and waves along the USA coastline.

Precipitation: Wednesday through the rest of the week looks to have a 40% chance of showers. Nothing heavy just scattered showers.

UV and light index: This week should have more clouds than sun just be aware to not spend to much time in direct sunlight if there is any.

Air quality forecast: We have good air everywhere not even a trace of bad air. So take a breath of relief and enjoy the day.

Tropical: We have three areas to watch.

1. Tropical Storm Fred has restrengthened. It is forecast to ride over the Florida and Alabama coast Monday night. It will be a tropical storm. Alert family and friends of the threat.

2. Tropical storm Grace is impacting Puerto Rico. It will move onto the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and then Cuba. It will then near Florida. It looks like it will go west then to Texas, Mexico, or possibly Louisiana.

3. A well defined area of low pressure northeast of Bermuda is producing showers and thunderstorms to the south of its center. It may develop into a tropical system. However if it does not develop by Tuesday the development chances will decrease. I give it a small chance of development.

Precipitation: Thursday through Saturday we have a chance of scattered showers. I give about 40% chance of precipitation.

UV and light index: Today will be sunny put on your sunscreen or you will burn. I give about 2 hours to burn if in direct sunlight with no protection.

Tomorrow will be sunny. Highs in the upper 70s. Lows in the mid 50s.

Air quality forecast: We have good air everywhere today, no moderate air at all. So go outside and relax. You can start breathing easy today.

Tropical: We have two areas to watch.

1. Tropical depression Fred is not forecast to restrengthen for a little while. It’s cone has changed, it will now be impacting the Florida panhandle and Alabama coast as a tropical storm. Tell your family and friends if they live in the south to be aware of this.

2. Tropical storm Grace has formed. Grace will be approaching Florida on Thursday. However we usually see the impact cone change so if this storm were to curve up the east coast we could have a problem. But for now we do not have to worry.

Precipitation: A small chance of showers today, and a medium chance of showers and thunderstorms starting Wednesday night. I give about a 50% chance of precipitation.

UV and light index: This week will have more clouds than sun, so relax and just don’t spend excessive time in direct sunlight with no protection. Time to burn 4 hours.
